About this project
I wrote this small web application to demonstrate my skills in the following areas:
- PHP
- XHTML 1.0 (Strict)
- CSS
- Java script
- AJAX
I have been interested in family tree research for several years now and have my own (at present), static, web site: www.familynorman.org.uk/. I have often pondered on the idea of producing dynamic trees to represent family relationships and decided it would be a good opportunity to demonstrate the above skills and get a module for my web site when I get round to putting up the dynamic version of the family tree web site.
This version produces a simple two tier tree with one set of parents and n children. As a second phase of the project I plan to take some of the functionality and put in into smaller classes making each branch of the tree into instance of a tree class held by an orgChart class.
The application was partly developed on an iMac using TextMate and partly on Windows using Eclipse. I wrote all the (X)HTML and PHP code myself
